Still enjoying making stuff.  
Today I have made my first Christmas cake, it's still in the oven! 
I have got some spicy chutney on the stove, and dripping in the bathroom a jelly bag straining stewed apple for apple and chilli jelly.
I've got leave them as long as possible so that they will mature hopefully in time for Christmas.
It's blowing a gale outside, I keep thinking the tree outside will be inside soon.
Wanna stay in doors until spring....can't...need more sugar for jelly.

Have made jam loads of time but this is my first attempt at chutney!
Using this recipe as I have lots of apples that I've found to use up Smile

26 October 20:38 Tonight I mostly be.....

Cooking a chicken!!  Have been trying to make my money go further, by buying a chicken from supermarket and using it for sarnies, roast, etc to last me the week.
Have tried a new recipe tonight, smells good, thought I would share it.

Still waiting for Central heating engineer to turn up......Confused
They will only offer you a morning (08.00 to 13.00) or afternoon (13.00 to 17.00) appointment, so asked for morning as early as possible as I start work at 08:00.  Still waiting, you know as soon as I switch the hoover on they will knock at the door and I won't hear it....!!
Got away last weekend to Ogri MCC Rally near Cirencester, wicked weekend, was great to catch up with Coz, Tracy, Sarah, Sandra and the Dutch Crew.  Will add some pics to R&R.
Still not here...Disappointed

Since my last blog I have motivated myself into going away camping twice in a week.
I feel so much happier having got away...thought of nothing...had nature therapy!  I like it, want to do more.

My R&R is ongoing, still not feeling a 100% but a hundred times better than I did 6 months ago. 
I keep meaning to update my msn space more regularly but I never do. 
Just like I keep meaning to do things.
Facebook is still grabbing my attention, though it is starting to wane.
I want to get out and about, and do things, I need goals, something to look forward to, holiday, weekend away, day out, night off....
Get started, get planning....

P1010835 This is wholesome classic Chinese food, definitely in my top 10 electric chair meals. I have a traditional clay pot that I always cook this dish in, I‟m sure any old casserole pan will do but for some reason this old friend seems to make the dish taste better. The pairing that makes this dish so fabulous are the meaty Chinese mushrooms (Shitake) and the dried beancurd. Both are unique and wonderful, the whole dish comes together in a melting pot of flavours that just knocks on the doors of those taste buds. Again, all these ingredients you can get from any Chinese supermarket. Simple stuff.

What

  • Dried Chinese mushrooms, soaked and halved
  • Dried tofu, soaked and halved
  • Sliced onion
  • Chicken pieces
  • Whole garlic clove and piece of ginger
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Preserved tangerine peel
  • Crushed Szechuan peppercorns
  • Whole star anise
  • Soy and oyster sauce
  • Rice wine
  • Sesame oil
  • Chopped coriander
  • Seasoning

How
P1010882 Season and fry the chicken and onion until brown. Add all the spices, sauces, tangerine peel, garlic and ginger, stir for a bit, add the mushrooms and dried tofu, and top with water. Everything should be in underwater but only barely. Cook for an hour or so, at the end, add some chopped coriander and serve directly from the pot. Serve with steamed rice and Chinese greens.

Just got back from Over the Edge Rally

I am so tired, and that was staying in a chalet!!  Had a brilliant time down on the Isle of Wight, have stuck most of the photos on facebook.  Noticed I'd not even put last years on here......I am such a slacker!  Back to work tomorrow, not so bad after having a great weekend.

Cakes for Mothers Day

Today is a fantastic day, the sun is shining, birdies in the trees.  Have been making cakes today.  It's mothers day tomorrow so I have been making her a cake :)  Don't want to put pics up today, because it would spoil the surprise.  Off out in the garden now to make the most of the spring like sunshine.  Talking of spring, you should see Elaine's pond, it's writhing with tadpoles, thousands of them, not long hatched, amazing site...
